The white provides the neutral ground that lets every stripe colour in the rainbow sequence read clearly. Any other solid top competes with at least some of the rainbow colours.

The exception is if you want to match one specific colour in the stripe. If the pants contain a stripe in coral, a solid coral top creates an intentional colour pull that looks deliberate.
