Kurta Pajama for Kids: Our Collection and the Story Behind It
Namaste!
My name is Ankit, and I am the co-founder of Gozi.in, along with my wife Ishita and our two wonderful sons. This is the story of how we started our kurta pajama for kids collection, what we make it from, and how it has grown since our first four colours. If you are short on time: our kurta pajama sets are pure cotton, cut with a relaxed fit for children aged 1 to 8, and made for pujas, festivals and family functions as much as for comfortable days at home.
How the collection began: four colours for four Indian seasons
We launched our first kurta pajama sets in July 2024, inspired by the Indian seasons. We chose four colours to represent them:
- Orange for summers
- Green for monsoons
- White for winters
- Brown sun print on white for spring
We believe in minimal designs and high quality. We spent a long time finalising those first designs so they matched our philosophy: no flashy prints, just simple elegance.
The first four designs
1. Orange, for summer. Vibrant and energetic, just like the summer sun.

2. Green, for the monsoon. Fresh and lively, like the monsoon greenery.

3. White, for winter. Pure and calm, a classic look that never goes out of style. This one is still with us: the white cotton kurta pajama set for kids, now in sizes 1-2 Y to 7-8 Y.
4. Sun print, for spring. A brown sun on white, for freshness and new beginnings.

An update for 2026: the orange, green and sun print sets from that first collection are no longer available. The white set is, and the collection has grown into many more colours and prints, which you will find below.
The fabric: poplin and fine 60s cotton
When we first wrote this post, we compared "poplin vs cotton". That was not quite right, and we want to correct it. Poplin is not a different fibre from cotton. It is a weave: a plain weave with a tight, even structure that gives a smooth, crisp surface. Our white kurta pajama is cotton poplin, so it is cotton, woven the poplin way.
Our newer kurta pajama sets are made from fine 60s Indian cotton. The "60s" is the yarn count. In the cotton count system, as Cotton Incorporated explains, the higher the number, the finer and lighter the yarn. Much everyday cotton is 40s, so 60s yarn weaves into fabric that is smoother, lighter and more breathable, which helps during a long pooja or a warm wedding lunch.
| Cotton poplin (our white set) | 60s Indian cotton (our newer sets) | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Cotton in a tight plain weave | Fabric woven from fine 60s count cotton yarn |
| Feel | Smooth and crisp, looks neat in photos | Light, smooth and soft |
| Best for | Pujas, functions and a classic white look | Festivals, weddings and warm days |
| Care | Machine wash on a gentle cycle, tumble dry low | Wash normally; colours are made not to bleed or fade after a few washes |
The fabric used in our 60s cotton kurta pajama sets is OEKO-TEX certified and coloured with reactive dyes, which bond with the cotton fibre rather than sitting on top of it. STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX means the textile has been tested against a list of more than 1,000 harmful substances, with the strictest limits set for articles for babies and young children.
Why a kurta pajama for kids?
- Festivals and poojas: Diwali, Holi, Eid, Rakhi and family pujas.
- Functions: weddings, birthdays and school cultural days.
- Comfort at home: soft and easy to move in, so it works for everyday wear too.

How we design the fit
- 3/4 sleeves: they stay out of the food at a function, let arms move freely and stay comfortable in warm and mild weather.
- Relaxed, straight-cut pajamas: room to sit cross-legged on the floor, play and run without pulling.
- Unisex designs: our kurta pajama sets are made for baby boys and girls.
- Sizes by age: 1-2 Y up to 7-8 Y. If your child is between sizes or tall for their age, size up.

Caring for a kids' kurta pajama
- Wash before the first wear, inside out, with similar colours.
- Use a gentle cycle for the white poplin set and tumble dry low or line dry in shade.
- Treat food and haldi marks as soon as you can; our guide on removing haldi stains from clothes will help after festive meals.
- Iron on a warm setting while the fabric is still slightly damp for a crisp look.
Frequently asked questions
Which fabric is best for a kids' kurta pajama?
Breathable cotton. A fine yarn such as 60s cotton feels lighter and smoother, and a tight poplin weave looks crisp. Both are far more comfortable for long functions than synthetic festive wear.
Can my child wear a kurta pajama every day?
Yes. With 3/4 sleeves and relaxed pajamas, our sets are comfortable at home and on outings, not just at festivals.
Are your kurta pajamas for boys or girls?
Both. Our sets are made for baby boys and girls.
What size kurta pajama should I buy?
Choose your child's age size, from 1-2 Y to 7-8 Y. If they are between sizes or tall for their age, go one size up.
Do you have kurta pajamas for a 1 year old?
Yes. Our smallest size is 1-2 Y. For a size chart by height and what to choose for naming ceremonies, annaprashan and a first Diwali, see our guide to traditional dress for baby boy (1 to 3 years).
